I have been thinking a lot about the rift between the transexual community and the genderqueer community over Gender Identity Disorder. As a Gender Abolitionist I find the whole concept of GID horrific and pathologizing. But, I find that a lot of Trans people actually identify as people born with a disorder which was ‘fixed’ by medical transition.
It comes down to a view of gender as Social Construction versus a view of gender as a code by DNA. These worldviews are fundamentally incompatible, but there is rarely discussion of this.
